CRGP Architects has used a state-of-the-art engineered roofing solution from Protan for a new social housing scheme in Linthouse, Glasgow.
The housing scheme, built by main contractor CBC, comprises 20 houses and 40 apartments, the latter of which are all roofed with 1,700m2 of Protan SE 1.6mm single ply PVC membrane.
The factory-fabricated option, welded and mechanically fixed in place with Omega extruded steel profiles, was chosen by roofing contractor WF Price Roofing.
David McIntosh, the architect on the project, explained: “We wanted a modern but almost invisible space that blended seamlessly into its brownfield surroundings.
The simple lines and low pitch leant themselves to a single ply roofing solution. We have used Protan before, and knew we would get professional, quality advice and technical support to achieve our design ends.”
The pre-fabricated membrane offers a tensile strength of ≥1050N and tear resistance ≥210N. The product has been developed to withstand extreme temperatures and can still be folded at -30°C.
The Protan SE membrane is guaranteed for a minimum of 10 years, however previous installations have lasted in excess of 30 years without performance-affecting degradation.
Protan UK offers a full support service, including NBS specification and in-house CAD design from its Warrington office.
