The Manchester Library Walk Link was designed by Waagner Biro to connect the city’s historic library building to the Town Hall. To reflect the unique curve and dramatic glass architecture of the link building, Slimdrive SC automatic curved sliding doors, as well as four Slimdrive SL NT sliding doors by GEZE UK were installed.
The Manchester Library Walk Link stands at 7.4 metres high and features 26 panes of glass. The building’s most striking feature is the rooftop sculpture of a cloud formation, created from 30 tonnes of mirror-polishes stainless steel, which has been designed to create the overall effect of “maximum light and space” in the atrium.
To allow easy access to the passageway, two gently curved automatic bi-parting sliding glass doors were installed at either end of the building. Waagner Biro specified GEZE’s Slimdrive SC automatic door operator for its sleek aesthetic and versatility. The operator can be tailored to bespoke radii and door dimensions and boasts impressive environmental credentials.
In addition to the curved entranceways, GEZE installed automatic sliding doors providing access to the library and Town Hall buildings, using the Slimdrive SL NT drive throughout.
Both the Slimdrive SC and Slimdrive SL NT automatic operators are just 7cm high, allowing the head track to be discretely mounted and partially hidden within the soffit detailing/fascia. The drivers have been designed to be virtually silent during operation and are ideal for glass doors.
The Slimdrive range has been designed and tested to meet the requirements of all relevant standards and regulations, including Building Bulletin 93, Approved Documents B and M and the Equality Act.
