WernerCo has invested over $1.8 million in production at its Maldon UK facility, strengthening its position in the ladders and access towers market.
Last year, WernerCo opened a new National Distribution Centre in Burton Upon Trent to provide distribution and collection facilities to its customer base.
As a result, over 36,000 square feet of production floor in Maldon has been relayed to optimise production efficiency; it will also absorb some of the volume from WernerCo’s Belper facility, which will close later this year.
In anticipation of these changes, WernerCo has invested over $1.8 million in improving and streamlining production at its Maldon facility.
The company has procured a new BLM Adige Fibre Optic Laser Cutter, which will be used for cutting treads for its fibreglass stepladders, stiles for box section extension ladders and BoSS access tower components.
The new machinery enables cutting for its D-Rung ladder stiles and GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) treads and horizontals. The investment eliminates the need for outsourcing, whilst providing an increase in capacity to support further growth.
An additional 25,000 square feet of storage buildings have been added to the facility, along with a dedicated extrusion store of around 10,000 square feet. WernerCo has also invested $100k in increased nitrogen generation, which is used in the aluminium laser cutting production, making it self-sufficient.
The company is also investing in global operations: in Vietnam, for example, it has installed a $5 million aluminium extrusion machine to supply ladders for the UK market.
