GLASSOLUTIONS’ solar control curtain walling has been installed to improve thermal efficiency at a new multi-occupancy office block at Winnersh Triangle Business Park.
Delivering business and industrial work space for an array of enterprises, including Virgin Media and Intel, Winnersh Triangle covers an impressive 85 acres. Its office space offering has recently been extended, with the construction of a new multi-occupancy block.
GLASSOLUTIONS was contracted to manufacture and install 3,400 square metres of curtain-wall façade for the new building. Sustainability and efficiency were a key consideration for Winnersh Triangle: solar control glass was desired, and air tightness required.
To meet the park’s stringent sustainability specifications, GLASSOLUTIONS utilised a variety of products and systems to enhance the efficiency of the building’s envelope: Schueco’s FW60+ and FW60+ SG curtain walling systems were specified to support internal climate control, whilst several 6mm SGG COOL-LITE SKN174 panes were used for the outer glazing; these were supplemented with a 16mm argon warm edge spacer bar to reduce thermal bridging.
Additionally, a brise soleil, which was designed by EPR Architects, was engineered and installed to manage the solar gain of the façade.
The installation was carried out in conjunction with the project’s main contractor, Wates, and EPR Architects. The original brief was met: the solar control properties of the building’s glazing specification are effective at controlling heat transmission, minimising glare and reducing the need for internal air conditioning.
The glazing has achieved an Air Tightness Rating of 2.1m3/hr/m2, surpassing the tight requirement of 3m3/hr/m2.
