Bespoke casings for Maxwell Centre, Cambridge

Bespoke casings specified for Cambridge research facility

  • 20 Jun 2016

Contour has developed a number of bespoke casings for a natural vent system at Cambridge University’s new Maxwell Centre research facility.

Designed by BDP, the £26 million Centre was built to accommodate research and industrial partnerships in the physical sciences. The project’s builder, SDC, specified a tailor-made casing system from Contour, impressed by the company’s ability to modify its existing products to adhere to the requirements of different projects.

Bespoke casings

300 metres of wall-to-wall low-line casings were designed to complement the building’s clean, contemporary lines. By using its slimline DeepClean radiator guard design as a basis for the fit-out project, Contour was able to create a series of unobtrusive casings.

The products were finished in satin black, with horizontal grilles and black locks to match. Low maintenance and easy to clean, the casings were deemed appropriate for use in such a high traffic area.

Contour was also able to change its design so that the casings could fit around the columns, which were part of the room design.

The project was split over three phases. Contour provided a comprehensive supply and installation package for SDC, as well as site consultations and additional services.
