Euroroof waterproofing system specified for Hovis factory

  • 20 Jun 2016

Alumasc’s Euroroof waterproofing system has been specified to protect the roof of Hovis’ bread-baking factory from water ingress.

The factory’s previous roof waterproofing system had deteriorated over time; although multiple patchwork repairs were carried out to extend its life, it was in need of replacement.

Working in conjunction with its Leeds-based contractor, Mitie Roofing, Alumasc designed, supplied and installed a complete new waterproofing system to cover the roof’s 3,200 square metres.

Careful not to disturb the food-production facility below, Alumasc’s team worked to remove the old mineral-surfaced system and prepare the existing roof deck.

Following this, Mitie Roofing laid a Europroof vapour barrier to provide immediate protection for the factory, before replacing the original skylights with Naturalight Barrel Vault roof lights. This ensured that production could continue without interruption.

An Alumasc PIR thermal insulation scheme was fitted; the Euroroof Rapid waterproofing system was  torch-applied.

Following the success of the project, Hovis issued the installation of the Alumsac waterproofing system across its other buildings, including its main office block.
