Polyflor luxury vinyl tiles create geometric floor design at Solihull School

Solihull School has used Polyflor’s luxury vinyl tile and sheet vinyl flooring ranges to create a dynamic, geometric flooring design for its new sixth form centre.

The £4.5m sixth form centre was managed by main contractor Speller Metcalfe and designed by Malcolm Payne Design Group.

Gladston Contractor Flooring Specialists installed Polyflor’s Pearlazzo PUR homogeneous sheet flooring which formed a hexagonal patterned floor design in the centre’s breakout and dining area. 

The geometric flooring design was created using four shades from the collection: mineral, rain cloud, charcoal and sunrise. The hexagon shapes were then produced by Polyflor’s in-house Design Service using precision waterjet cutting technology. Pearlazzo vinyl flooring features tonal chips and pearlescent flakes, blended and fused into a solid base colour to create a distinctive finish.

Elsewhere, Expona Control PUR luxury vinyl tiles in a light elm shade were fitted to create a pathway through the common room areas into the adjoining corridors and staircases. The vinyl tiles were specified to offer sustainable wet slip resistance produced by the aluminium oxide particles which is sustainable for the guaranteed life of the product, due to its achievement of 36+ in the Pendulum Wet Test and 20 microns of surface roughness.

Both the Pearlazzo and Expona Control range feature a UV cured and cross-linked polyurethane PUR coating which allows for a polish-free maintenance regime.

The flooring ranges include an average 25% of recycled content and are fully recyclable through the Recofloor vinyl take back scheme. 

Both products achieve BRE Global A+ ratings in education facilities which can contribute to BREEAM credits, as can the products’ BES 6001 certification which demonstrates compliance with a recognised responsible sourcing scheme as certified by the BRE.
