Safety glass installed at new Liverpool University factory

  • 27 Jun 2016

Romag safety glass has been specified to secure three aerial walkways at Liverpool University’s new Materials Innovation Factory (MIF).

Over 60 square metres of clear Romag security glass has been supplied to deliver safety barriers on the three walkways that connect the university’s two main sections to its new Materials Innovation Factory (MIF).

The MIF, which is based in Liverpool’s Oxford Street, is the result of a £65 million investment by the university. Scheduled to open in autumn 2016, it will accommodate multi-disciplinary research facilities and an infrastructure to support new international materials’ development programmes.

The safety glass was fitted on the bridges off-site; it was delivered fully glazed, eliminating the need for a temporary handrail to be installed.

The installation work was carried out by Warrington-based structural steelwork and architectural metalwork fabricator, Shawton Engineering

The glass will enhance public safety, whilst complementing the aesthetic of the new factory. Romag’s manufacturing processes are certified to ISO9001; the company also holds ISO14001 and ISO18001 accreditation.
