Protan’s prefabricated roof process has ensured the early completion of a multi-million pound community campus project.
Designed and built by jmarchitects – in conjunction with infrastructure group Robertson Construction – the new Brechin Community Campus has been developed to provide a sustainable teaching environment for up to 800 students.
WF Price Roofing was contracted to weatherproof the L-shped roof of the glass and concrete main structure. To do so, the company specified 2,600 square metres of light grey Protan SE 1.2mm single ply membrane, which was installed on top of a concrete slab, thermal insulation and Protan’s VB250 vapour control layer.
Developed to resist adverse weather conditions, Protan SE is hot-air welded at joints and mechanically fixed. It is certified to ≤ -30°, whilst offering compliance with the energy efficiency requirements outlined in Approved Document L and achieving an A+ rating under the Green Guide.
The membrane was supplied in prefabricated roll widths of 3.96m, ready for mechanical fixing as it arrived on site.
By tailoring each roll of its material to individual project requirements, in a controlled factory environment, Protan is able to create suitable products without the impact of weather, debris and other site issues.
Its prefabricated roof process can quicken construction time by reducing the amount of on-site cutting, welding and waste. It is offered on all Protan SE membranes: its single ply is available in 1.2mm, 1.6mm and 1.8mm.
