Over 500 PVC-U Spectus window systems have been specified as an economic alternative to aluminium frames at Salford Quays’ residential new-build, X1 The Exchange.
Costing over £13 million, Salford Quays’ X1 The Exchange building accommodates 140 residential apartments, comprising both one and two bedrooms, as well as a gym and office space. The project’s main contractor was Bardsley Construction for X1 Developments.
Spectus provided technical support, including structural calculations, curtain wall screens and window wind loadings, throughout the project.
Manufactured and installed by Jade Windows – a Yorkshire-based, Spectus Approved window contractor – the project’s windows and doors were created with the Spectus Elite 70 bevelled system, with 8.8mm laminated acoustic glass and additional EPDM seal.
Able to withstand human impact, the screens were specified to protect the building envelope, while offering optimum U-values. An Anthracite grey foil was chosen to replicate the look of aluminium, whilst acting as an economic alternative to it.
Jade managed to complete the installation within four months. Up to ten fitters were present on the site at all times, working on the high-rise development through hostile winter weather, to ensure that initial delays were compensated for.
Spectus’ Approved Window Contractor scheme grants specifiers access to a nationwide network of window contractors, trained in construction law and site management. Each Spectus Approved window contractor is supported by the company’s technical and specification team.
The ADSA Academy – the online learning platform for members of the Automatic Door Suppliers Industry – has undergone a radical revamp with improved levels of functionality and personalisation.
