Working in conjunction with the Construction Youth Trust, UK Construction Week has launched a new social media campaign to celebrate the industry’s unacknowledged heroes and appeal to the younger generation.
The #ConstructionRoleModel campaign enables those in the industry to nominate and reward others who work untiringly to assist clients, improve working conditions and inspire the next generation of construction professionals.
To start the campaign, a number of construction experts and figureheads will produce a series of blog pieces, showcasing the accomplishments of different industry professionals, who have each made a positive contribution to the construction sector.
Highlighting examples of individuals who have championed diversity, challenged the skills gap or tackled adversity, the blog posts will help UK Construction Week to define what a ‘construction role model’ is.
Once the concept has been established, the nomination process will be opened up to the wider construction community. Individuals or companies will be invited to nominate themselves or others using the hashtag #ConstructionRoleModel.
UK Construction Week will then begin to select the most popular nominees: the winners will be announced at its October event, later this year.
At the show, the selected ‘construction role models’ will be provided with a platform to share their opinions on the sector. In a series of Q&A sessions and features, they will be encouraged to discuss what inspired them to work in construction and what it takes to succeed in the industry.
The Construction Youth Trust – a charity which aims to provide access to training, education and employment opportunities to those who aspire to the industry – has worked with UK Construction Week to create the campaign.
#ConstructionRoleModel has been developed to raise awareness amongst the younger generation on the benefits of a career in construction.
