Electricity North West sites benefit from CLIQ system installation

Over 3,300 CLIQ cylinders and padlocks – along with 10,800 mechanical padlocks and cylinders and more than 40 CLIQ programming devices – have been specified to protect Electricity North West’s multiple sites.

As distribution network operator for the North West of England, Electricity North West works to serve approximately 5 million people via a network of transformers, overhead lines and underground cables.

The company sought an access control solution at each of its sites, which are located in an assortment of urban spaces and rural settings. Its original brass padlocks were frequently targeted by thieves for their scrap value, putting the security of its sites at risk.

ABLOY UK was contracted to provide a smart security solution, based on its ability to deliver a locking system that would allow Electricity North West to exercise greater control over its keys.

ABLOY’s CLIQ system also boasts compliance with the industry’s current security standard for attack resistance and the ability to generate audit trails, meeting the energy provider’s requirements.

ABLOY UK carried out a detailed survey for Electricity North West, before issuing the installation of almost 15,000 locking cylinders and padlocks at the company’s multiple sites.

In total, Electricity North West is making use of almost 2,000 CLIQ user keys and more than 40 CLIQ programming devices, which enable its workers to update the access rights of keys remotely.

The CLIQ software allows the company to generate audit trails for individual locks, keys or system users. As all keys can be removed, activated or access changed via the CLIQ web manager software, the security of the company’s sites are not at risk if a key is lost.

As CLIQ keys are programmable, a temporary contractor can be issued with one that permits entry to the company’s sites for a limited period of time. Each key can be programmed and updated individually to allow access to specific areas at certain times and dates.
