Axion Consulting has worked to provide commercial recycling solutions on a number of projects, contributing to the recovery of valuable resources within the Circular Economy.
The company’s laboratory-based approach to process development and optimisation work enables its clients to bring their recycling concepts to life.
Axion recently worked on a collaborative RECOVER R&D project with Johnson Matthey Fuel Cells – a fuel cell components manufacturer – and nonwoven materials manufacturer, Technical Fibre Products
Co-funded by Innovate UK, the project saw the separation and recovery of high-value platinum and polymer materials from fuel cell membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs). Axion’s laboratory team developed a financially-efficient process to recuperate the materials.
The process journey involved many stages, which required thorough testing and evaluation. Axion eventually created a successful pilot-scale solution, which can be scaled up to a potential industrial size.
The company boasts technical knowledge of mechanical and solid separation steps, as well as an essential understanding of the chemistry required to extract valuable materials for reuse in new hydrogen fuel cells.
By focusing on working with supply chains to deliver environmentally sound recycling solutions, it aims to assist the implementation of projects in the growing Circular Economy sector.
