Charcon has been awarded a contract to supply its Andover Washed block paving to Oriam, £33 million Sports Performance Centre at Heriot-Watt University’s Edinburgh campus.
The multi-sport centre will provide Scotland’s top athletes with the facilities to enable them to compete at an international level, and will also be open to wider public use. Once complete. Orin will include a full-sized indoor pitch, top-level grass and synthetic outdoor pitches, a strength and conditioning centre, a medical centre and hydrotherapy pool, fitness suites, studios and support services.
1,200m2 of Charcon’s Andover Washed block paving has been specified in Anthracite Charcoal and will be used for the centre’s external hard landscaping. Andover Washed allows for different patterning effects in adjacent areas to be created due to its consistency in colour and texture.
In addition, the paving contains up to 50% recycled materials in the complete mix design leading to a more sustainable solution.
Charcon’s Specification and Major Projects Manager, Mike Davies, commented that the Andover Washed block paving will help ensure that the overall vision for the project is realised and adds to the aesthetic appeal of the building.
He elaborated: “Our Andover Washed Block Paving is the ideal choice: it has been used on a number of prestigious schemes thanks to its strong credentials, offering a durable and sustainable solution without compromising on design.”
Construction of Oriam is scheduled for completion this summer.
