Darkwave Thermo is using FLIR thermal imaging as a cost-effective and quicker method of conducting its building inspections.
The maintenance of cladded building façades has traditionally relied on manual inspection and labour, the cost of which is increased by the installation of scaffolding and lift systems. Cladding materials range widely, but can all detach from the façade through weathering and ageing and become a public safety concern.
Darkwave Thermo is using the FLIR T640 imaging camera to easily and clearly highlight the surfaces subject to detachment.
The FLIR T640 features an on-board MP visual camera, interchangeable lens options with autofocus and a tiltable viewfinder. The camera utilises MSX to add visible spectrum definition to IR images in real time, enabling Darkwave’s thermographers to instantly identify problem locations.
The high thermal sensitivity of the FLIR T640 (<.035°C at 30°C) is essential for detecting areas of surface detachment, as is the camera’s capability of providing clear thermal images over distances and its compatibility of a wide range of interchangeable lenses.
All cameras which are part of FLIR’s T-Series feature the ability to take panoramic IR images. An on-screen grid allows several images to be dragged, dropped and overplayed into the composite JPEG, and every pixel on the image is transferred with its own radiometric data.
Darkwave Thermo has used thermal imaging in many inspections requisitions to support legal cases, where destructive tests are not allowed. Thermal imaging techniques are also an ideal alternative for heritage buildings where the intricate fabric has high historical value.
