Geberit’s Mapress Stainless Steel and HDPE products have been used in the £14m restoration of Hasting’s Pier.

Mapress Stainless Steel was selected for all pipework installed under the structure of the pier.

The renovation is part of a charity project, with the majority of the funding raised through the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF). The works have included the restoration of the pier’s Grade II listed substructure, refurbishing its only standing pavilion, the construction of a new visitor centre and a full service restaurant in the one remaining original building.

Geberit Mapress Stainless Steel has been used for all gas pipework on the pier, installed by Commercial Hydronic Systems. The product was chosen for its ease and speed, as the pipework had to be installed underneath the structure, as well as at height.

Nik Bishop from Commercial Hydronic Systems commented that Geberit Mapress made a great alternative to a three inch welded traditional gas pipe as there is no need for hot works.

For the off-pier waste system, Geberit HDPE was specified. Manufactured from polyethylene, Geberit HDPE is environmentally friendly and completely recyclable, with no toxic emissions released during its processing or in case of a fire.

Commercial Hydronic Systems use Geberit products on 90% of its projects, according to Nik Bishop. All of the company’s engineers attended a free training session at Geberit’s dedicated centre in Warwick prior to working on the redevelopment.
