Durkan has specified Kingspan OPTIM-R flooring for the renovation of a former Royal Military Academy overlooking Woolwich Common. The Grade II listed building is being restored to create high specification houses and apartments.
The former academy will comprise attractive homes which retain original heritage features and an on site fitness suite. Its surroundings will contain a private courtyard, gardens, boulevards, parks and ancient woodland.
The Kingspan OPTIM-R Flooring System was specified by Durkan to make the most of the available space, as the original beam and block flooring limited the installers’ ability to dig down. It has been installed in a 30mm thickness to allow Durkan to maintain existing threshold levels whilst also achieving excellent thermal performance.
Kingspan’s technical team provided Durkan with design drawings, calculations and specification sheets which helped to simplify the installation and keep the thickness of the insulation to a minimum.
Kingspan OPTIM-R offers a thermal conductivity of 0.007 W/m.K and is covered by LABC Registered Details. The vacuum insulation panels are accompanied by rigid thermoset insulation infill panels, which can be used where the remaining dimension to infill is below 300mm or can be cut to fit around problem areas such as penetrations or load bearing walls.
Panels sized between 20-40mm are also certified by BDA Agrément when installed to Kingspan Insulation’s recommendations, which can help to streamline Building Control processes, therefore reducing construction time and costs.
