High performance glass from GLASSOLUTIONS has been utilised in the creation of a sustainable college and Code Level 4 and 5 housing development in the London Borough of Wandsworth.
The St John Bosco College and Wandsworth Residential Surrey Lane scheme was completed in September 2015, resulting in a £50m mixed use development by Lendlease which provides a range of 100 new homes and a voluntary-aided school with a capacity to cater to over 1,300 students.
Lendlease worked with London architects Allford Hall Monaghan Morris on developing the sustainable residential and educational buildings. Lendlease implemented a series of sustainable design measures including air source heating and a range of water saving and transport systems.
The college is made up of four storeys and comprises steel frame construction with a brick and wooden clad finish. The building uses GLASSOLUTIONS glazing widely throughout to maximise natural light whilst delivering a high level of thermal performance and minimising solar gain.
GLASSOLUTIONS were appointed by Leadlease having previously worked together on the Ministry of Justice Framework.
The UK-based glass supplier collaborated with architectural aluminium systems specialists Metal Technology to supply and install glazing in a contract valued around £2.5m.
The glazing specification included the use of argon gas filled 16mm double glazed units with a black warm edge spacer between 6mm SGG SECURIT HST outer panes and 6.8mm SGG STADIP PLANITHERM ULTRA N inner panes.
The solar control glazing units featured 6mm SGG SECURIT HST COOL-LITE SKN 174 II outer panes and 6.8mm SGG STADIP inner panes. The rooflights utilised 8mm SGG SECURIT HST PLANITHERM ULTRA N II glass in combination with 8.8mm SGG STADIP glass.
The Code Level 5 town houses also featured solar and standard glazing, including triple glazed units with 6mm SGG SECURIT HST PLANITHERM ULTRA N II and 4mm SGG SECURIT HST separating two 16mm argon gas filled cavities.
Leadlease’s commercial manager Wayne Pluck commented: “GLASSOLUTIONS demonstrated a commitment to the project from tender through to final delivery and provided excellent technical support throughout the challenging project.
