  • 12 Aug 2016

UK Construction Week has revealed the seminar schedule for the 2016 Civils Expo. The event will bring to light the biggest issues in the civils sector including Crossrail, Northern Powerhouse and Midlands growth, and will also host the WAN Infrastructure Awards 2016.

Civil_Expo_2016_LogoCivils Expo will begin on 18th October with an in-depth seminar on the Crossrail project titled Crossrail 2: The Sequel. The discussion with be hosted by Esther Halahan of Transport for London and will be supplemented by a seminar on day two which will look at the challenges, strategies and considerations of the remodelling and construction of the stations along the planning route.

Furthering the debate on effective infrastructure, Chris Broadbent, managing director of CEEQUAL, will discuss ‘the use of sustainability rating schemes to deliver better infrastructure projects’.

The panel discussion ‘Midlands Engine for Growth’ will take place on day two and will feature an impressive line up of speakers including Chris Henning (Strategy Director, Economy at Nottingham City Council), Louise Bennett OBE DL (Chief Executive at Conventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce and Chair, West Midlands Chamber of Commerce Trade LLP), Scott Knowles (Chief Executive at East Midlands Chamber of Commerce), Ian Harrison (Regional Director at UKTI – East Midlands) and Christine Hamilton (Acting Regional Director at UKTI – West Midlands).

On the final day, Richard Ogden of Buildoffsite will look at what the future holds for offsite construction, whilst a panel will ask how can the industry do more to create a diverse and skilled workforce?

Nathan Garnett, Event Director at Civils Expo commented: “Britain’s infrastructure has been a hot topic of political discussion of late and is crucial to our future prosperity. For this reason, we’ve thought long and hard about the seminar schedule for Civils Expo, recognising that it will be a valuable platform for the industry to come together and devise strategy for the future.

Importantly, the show also represents the first major event following the decision to leave the EU and as such will play a role in settling any nerves within the sector.”

Civils Expo 2016 will take place at the Birmingham NEC between the 18th – 20th October as part of UK Construction Week.
