Presidential residence benefits from Changing Places toileting facility

  • 15 Aug 2016

A Changing Places accessible toileting facility has been installed at the official residence of Áras an Uachtaráin, the President of Ireland.

Changing Places facilities have been designed to deliver the conventional benefits of a wheelchair-accessible toilet, whilst offering more space and additional equipment, such as a ceiling track hoist and an adult-sized height adjustable changing bench.

With 12 square metres of space, these ‘away from home’ accessible toilets are able to accommodate everyone’s personal care and hygiene needs – particularly those who require the assistance of a carer.

The toilets are considered ‘desirable’ under BS8300:2009 for all public new build and refurbishment projects. This standard cross-references with Irish Technical Guidance Document Part M.

Changing Places with Clos-o-Mat

Whilst over 850 Changing Places have been included and opened at venues throughout the UK, this installation is the first in any Irish building managed by the Office of Public Works. A party from the Irish Wheelchair Association and Inclusion Ireland were invited to visit the new facility as it opened.

The facility was supplied by Clos-o-Mat; offering project management and design advice, the company works to supply, install, commission and maintain a range of accessible toileting equipment across the UK.
