CMS Window Systems has finished work on a housing project in Northumberland, providing casement windows and doors for the building envelope.
Designed to provide accommodation for Alnwick’s older and more vulnerable occupants, Weavers Court comprises 58 contemporary apartments and dedicated care facilities, offering support services for those with health conditions and chronic illnesses.
Developed by housing company Isos, the community offers quality living spaces for an improved lifestyle; the Extra Care scheme allows elderly tenants to maintain their independence, whilst providing them with the support they need.
CMS was introduced to the Weavers Court project by its main contractor, Galliford Try. The company was commissioned to manufacture and install a complete building envelope, including casement windows and both single and double doors.
The specified systems had to be energy efficient, as well as aesthetically-pleasing: smart grey PVCu casement frames from Sheerframe’s 8000 collection were chosen to complement the building design. High-performance units were selected to reduce heat transfer and draughts, enabling the creation of a comfortable interior environment.
The building envelope’s glass panels were arranged to introduce natural lighting into the residences, whilst showcasing the views towards the south of Alnwick.
All CMS products specified for use on the project have achieved Secured By Design accreditation. As a police-led initiative, this standard promotes safety specifications for building materials. It offers assurance that CMS’ fenestration systems surpass the industry’s stringent security requirements.
The company’s work at Weavers Court was completed in June; the development is set to open later this year.
