This year’s Surface & Materials Show will reflect on the challenges and opportunities a post-referendum Britain will face, focusing on the importance of modernising architectural education; the use of smart materials for better building; and enhancing trust in terms of sustainability in the surface market.
Taking place at the Birmingham NEC as part of UK Construction Week, the Surface & Materials Show will host a series of debates, workshops, panel discussions and interactive demonstrations between the 18th – 20th October. The show will also host over 1,500 square metres of stands featuring both established and emerging brands within the industry.
Highlights from the show’s “Seminar Hub” include a discussion chaired by David Frise, Chief Executive of Finishes and Interiors Sector (FIS) on the role of BIM in driving successful collaboration. Dr Shamir Ghurma, Head of Responsible Source at BRE, will host a debate on sustainability and trust in surface and materials; whilst Laura Perryman, co-founder of Colour of Saying, will hold a seminar on how to keep up with future consumer lifestyle drivers.
On the UK Construction Week main stage, speakers from Leadlease, CIOB, ACE and CPA will take part in a panel discussion on how we must tackle productivity, innovation, investment, talent and skills. Further discussions will take place on why the Northern Powerhouse has become even more important in light of the EU Referendum and how the industry can get future-ready.
The full seminar programme has been made available on the UK Construction Week website.
In addition to its comprehensive seminar schedule, the Surface & Materials Show will also hold a range of installations and workshops.
The Material Lab will form the central feature at the Surface & Materials show and will showcase a curated selection of products designed to meet the evolving needs of architects, interior designers, facilities managers and specifiers.
A series of flooring workshops hosted by the Flooring Industry Training Association (FITA) will cover all areas of contract flooring, including wood, carpet, vinyl, laminate, tools and accessories.
Visitors to the show will also be able to see a model Wiki House constructed in the UK Construction Week Smart Buildings Theatre. The open source home design concept aims to provide an affordable and sustainable housing alternative, which allows for easy self-assembly and customisation.
Tickets to the Surface & Materials Show are available here.
