HUECK delivers aluminium building solutions for new fire stations

  • 31 Aug 2016

HUECK Aluminium Systems has contributed to the sustainable rebuild of four derelict London fire stations.

The London Fire Brigade issued a rebuild and refurbishment programme to improve the condition of some of its facilities, as part of a Private Finance Initiative project.

Plaistow, Orpington, Mitcham and Old Kent Road were no longer for purpose; the buildings did not meet the necessary standards and requirements for use.

In a development project led by Blue 3, each fire station has been reconstructed. The replacement facilities have been designed with sustainability and energy efficiency in mind: HUECK Aluminium Systems was contracted to develop a bespoke, thermally-efficient building envelope to minimise the stations’ environmental impact.

Its aluminium window and door suite, Lambda 77 L, was integrated with its Trigon 50mm curtain wall system to produce a sustainable building solution.

HUECK’s Lambda 77 L range can deliver U-values of 1.0 W/m2K, with sash weights of up to 170kg when concealed; a Passivhaus-certified version of its Trigon system can be specified.

As a result of the installation, the new fire stations were able to achieve an ‘Excellent’ BREEAM rating.
