CityLife masterplan developed by ArchA

For example, Paolo Zilli from Zaha Hadid Architects will be speaking about the design features of the spectacular Generali Tower in Milan including key aspects of the unique façade design.

Built for the new Generali headquarters, the 170m high Generali Tower, together with two further towers, will form the centrepiece of the CityLife masterplan.

CityLife will regenerate the old site of Milan’s International Fair which closed in 2005 and when complete, will be the largest new civic space and public park created for Milan for more than 120 years.

The curvilinear geometries of Generali Tower podium, characterised by the flowing, twisting form of the tower with its crystalline double skin facades, has geometric aspects which are unique to this project. Tensional forces are transferred vertically through the tower by the realignment of successive floor slabs that incrementally ‘twist’ about a vertical axis. As the tower rises it creates broader views and the twisting orientates the upper floors to face the centre of Milan and the Duomo. A system of sun-deflecting louvers flanked by glazing that includes a series of ventilating registers to draw outside air through the cavity provides an extremely efficient environmental control for each floor.
