Sustainable Building 2016 at CMS Innovation Hub

Sustainable Building conference hosted at CMS Innovation Hub

CMS Window Systems recently hosted the Sustainable Building 2016 conference, welcoming professionals from Scotland’s architectural, building and housing sectors to its Innovation Hub.

Over 60 industry representatives attended the event to discuss the creation of sustainable homes and communities in the future.

Speakers from Barnardo’s, BRE Scotland and RTPI Scotland covered a variety of topics, including changes in public policy, potential jobs and apprenticeships and the development of new materials and designs.

However, the issue of incorporating sustainable principles within current construction processes was at the top of the agenda. Having already designed a range of low carbon building envelope solutions to overcome this challenge, CMS Window Systems was qualified to lead the discussion.

Sustainable building at CMS Innovation Hub

At the Innovation Hub, delegates were invited to explore new products and sustainable solutions, which surpass the requirements of today’s standards and legislation. The Hub plays host to some of the most advanced building products available, from manufacturers such as GLASSOLUTIONS and Saint-Gobain.

The Hub itself is an example of sustainable construction: prior to CMS’s acquisition, the building was a dilapidated warehouse, with a ‘G’ rating for energy efficiency.

Instead of demolishing it and sending all waste to landfill, CMS worked to transform the facility into an ‘A’ rated centre of innovation. It provided an ideal location for industry leaders to meet and discuss the future of sustainable construction.
