Forty-five percent of people responsible for fire safety within their organisations do not know how to spot a suspect fire door, according to a survey by Atomik Research. Fire safety breaches can result in large fines and even jail sentences.
Shaftesbury Care Group Ltd was recently handed a fine and costs totalling £410,000 due to fire safety failings at a care home, which included inadequate door closers on the premises.
Door closers are an important part of fire and smoke protection and a complex matter, according to ASSA ABLOY UK’s Head of Door Closer Sales, David Hindle. He commented: “Door closers on fire and smoke protection doors can be a complex matter, since they must present the user with the lowest possible opening forces, whilst still retaining a high closing force in line with legislation.
Both of these requirements are met with the DC700G-FM Free-Motion door closer, which makes a controlled fire door as easy to use as an uncontrolled free-swing door.”
The DC700G-FM Free-Motion door closer from ASSA ABLOY is the first door closer designed for widths up to 1400mm.
Suitable for schools, hospitals and residential homes; the product combines a free-swing function with Cam-Motion technology, which replicates the absence of a door closer but offers reliable closing in the event of a fire.
Adhering to BS8300, Approved Document M and the Equalities Act 2010, the DC700G-FM is ideal for providing barrier free access.
