dormakaba supports fire door safety at week-long event

  • 26 Sep 2016

dormakaba is set to speak at Fire Door Safety Week, promoting best practice in fire door specification throughout the UK.

Today marks the start of this year’s Fire Door Safety Week: a range of events, which have been designed to raise awareness of the issues surrounding fire door specification, will take place across the UK until 2nd October.

To ensure compliance with Approved Document Part B, fire door hardware must have a Declaration of Performance (DoP) and a CE mark. The standard also recommends that all elements of a fire doorset are certified by a third party.

Fire Door Safety Week aims to highlight the importance of certification and compliance; it will promote best practice in specification, as fire doors are only effective if used correctly. Doors should be allowed to close fully, for example: anyone who notices a fire door wedged open should remove the obstruction and notify the person responsible for the building.

dormakaba’s Product Marketing Manager, Graham Hulland, will be speaking at three events this year. With over 30 years of experience in the industry, Graham is well-placed to give advice on fire door specification and best practice. His presentations will touch on the critical issues to consider when specifying, installing and inspecting hardware for fire doors.

Graham will speak at the Lorient Fire Safety event in Newton Abbot today; on 27th September, he will be at the Arnold Laver Fire Door Safety Day at Haydock Park, followed by the BWF-Certifire event at the London Fire Brigade’s headquarters on 29th September.

dormakaba has designed a guide to specify door closers and ensure hardware compliance, to supplement Graham’s presentations.

The dormakaba Showbus, which demonstrates a range of door closers, handles, floor springs and panic hardware, will be open to attendees at the events.
