The judges of the European Holiday Home Awards have named Lewis Longhouse 2016’s ‘Best Green Holiday Home’.
The awards, which were announced in Brussels last week, were established to showcase the best properties in the European Holiday Home industry.
This year, the Lewis Longhouse – a property on the Isle of Lewis – was awarded the title.
The longhouse, which is owned by couple Linda and Paul Brown, is located on an old family croft in Back, north of Stornoway. It was architect-designed by Gordon Anderson Associates; since its completion in 2013, the holiday home has been awarded 5-stars for luxury.
Working in conjunction with the owners, Gordon Anderson Associates utilised a range of new technologies and materials to create an innovative holiday home, combining traditional aesthetics with 21st century practicalities.
The building incorporates PV panels, an air-source heat pump and timber windows from NORDAN, which work to ensure low running costs, whilst maintaining high build standards. Local art and Harris Tweed runs through the interiors.
Linda and Paul’s ‘green’ holiday home was the first property in the Outer Hebrides to achieve an ‘AA’ EPC environmental rating; it is also the Isle of Lewis’ first Green Tourism GOLD award-winning property.
