The Adelphi Building on London’s Victoria Embankment has undergone a £30 million redevelopment which included the design and installation of a new five storey atrium and rooflight, delivered by the UK glass processing company GLASSOLUTIONS.
The company worked closely alongside ISG and architect Aukett Swanke to deliver a solution in-keeping with its Grade II listed art deco surroundings.
The project involved the creation of 190,000 square foot of CAT A open plan office accommodation on floors one to six. The development involved significant structural alterations, including the reinstatement of internal light wells to maximise the volume of natural light entering the structure at lower levels.
ISG ensured that elements of the original art deco interior remained, including the pillars around the perimeter and Travertine marble surfaces in the main entrance lobby John Adam Street.
Over a period of 20 weeks, GLASSOLUTIONS completed a £1 million interior and exterior glazing project using a range of glazing options within the Schueco window and curtain walling system.
The specification included glass solutions which would challenge deflection tolerances and deliver a thermally and acoustically efficient system.
The building’s previous smoked glass windows were replaced with clear glass units including Planidur COOL-LITE SKN165, Security HST Toughened Planitherm Ultra N on the outer panes of sealed units and Stadip Protect laminated on inner panes.
GLASSOLUTIONS also supplied a combination of fire rated glass units were required, choosing Securit Planitherm Total+ and 25mm Contraflam 60 on the inner panes.
Within the atrium, and for the screens and doors on the ground floor, Stadip Silence clear toughened HST acoustic laminate was specified to deliver Rw 41dB acoustic performance.
On the sixth floor, a new landscaped roof terrace area has been created overlooking the reinstated glazed light wells, using GLASSOLUTIONS SGG security glazing with handrail for the balustrading.
