Shingle Lodge, a private cottage annex at a Victorian-style boutique hotel in Dumfries and Galloway, has been constructed by 3b Construction using western red cedar JB Shingles by Marley Eternit to complement its natural surroundings.
Designed by architect John Murray, the Knockinaam Lodge hotel created the cottage for guests who require self-contained accommodation. The lodge, situated in 30 acres of landscaped grounds with its own private beach, utilises exterior materials that are robust enough to withstand the severely exposed condition without deteriorating.
Marley Eternit’s JB Shingles were specified in western red cedar for both the roof and cladding of the annex to maintain the character of the hotel and fit in with the abundant backdrop of vegetation behind the cottage.
The shingles boast one of the lowest carbon footprints of any widely used building product, offering a ‘Blue-label’ grade and are accredited by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC), which ensures that the biodiversity and ecosystems of the forest are preserved.
All JB Shingles are available with MicroPro preservative treatment, a clear application which retains the natural look of cedar whilst guaranteeing a minimum lifespan of 40 years.
