The award-winning Automist alternative sprinkler system, developed by Plumis, has been used in a 19th Century loft conversion in prime residential area of Edinburgh.
Automist was specified to provide unobtrusive fire protection which would comply with the latest building regulations after insistence from Edinburgh City Council’s Planning Department. The system acts as a simple, retrofit alternative to sprinklers for full room active fire protection, using a high pressure pump to generate a fine water mist.
Automist utilises an infrared heat detector, as recommended in Approved Document B, to detect and suppress incipient fires before they can spread. Installed by Blue Light Safety Ltd, 2 Automist pumps were fitted, as well as 3 heads covering the hallway upstairs, the stairway and the original hallway leading to the landing, ensuring that all escape routes were covered. Other rooms were protected by fire doors.
