Novus Property Solutions has created a new eco-building at the Mount Cook Adventure Centre in Derbyshire.
The new building on Porter Lane in Middleton-by-Wirksworth has been opened after 10 months of building works, designed to accommodate up to 130 visitors.
The wheelchair-accessible Adventure Centre will offer guests a range of activities and educational workshops based on the rich mining history and geology located in the area. The centre features an indoor climbing wall, indoor and outdoor workshop spaces, conference rooms, full catering facilities, an onsite high-ropes course and a 10 metre high rooftop terrace.
Situated in an exposed area on the outskirts of the Peak District, the £2.5 million building has been constructed using locally sourced Derbyshire stone to ensure it is sympathetic with its surroundings.
In terms of sustainability, renewable energy sources were heavily integrated into the building’s plans, with photovoltaic panels in place to heat water, and grey water recycling and wind-generated power to be added at a later date.
Built on five acres of ground, the Mount Cook Adventure Centre is set a short distance from the High Peak Trail, Carsington Reservoir and UNESCO World Heritage Sites Cromford Mill and Derwent Valley Mills.
