According to recent research, conducted by Habinteg and Papworth Trust, approximately 2 million people have accessible housing needs which are not being met. Clos-o-Mat offers a solution…
The report – ‘The Hidden Housing Market: A new perspective on the market case for accessible homes’ – recommends that housing developers and providers adjust their offerings to meet the nationwide demand for accessible housing.
Developers can ensure that accessible housing needs are being met by revising their products to ensure the delivery of suitable solutions, which allow people to maintain their independence in mainstream housing.
When it comes to undertaking home adaptations, the bathroom should be targeted first: an accessible bathroom should include, or have the capacity to accommodate, certain accessibility features.
Lifetime Homes criteria asserts that there should be an accessible toilet at entry level; the structure of the bathroom should be able to accommodate a ceiling track hoist, and, ideally, the room should be located next to to the main bedroom.
It is, thus, important to consider accessibility requirements at the design and build stage of a home.
With a reputation for providing accessible bathrooms to best practice, Clos-o-Mat can offer design advice on the supply, installation, commissioning and maintenance of accessible equipment, such as support systems, hoists and shower seats.
Many of its products, such as its Palma Vita wash and dry toilet, have been specifically designed for disabled users.
The company has worked with Habinteg on its social housing property portfolio, working to deliver personal care solutions that enable user independence. To assist architects, developers and planners further, Clos-o-Mat has released a white paper, entitled ‘Design Guidance & Considerations for an Accessible Bathroom/Wetroom’.
