Protan has developed a unique vacuum system that utilises natural air movement in the application of single ply roofing.
The PROVAC vacuum roofing system optimises air movement across flat roofs to create suction and hold the membrane in place – stronger winds ensure greater adhesion to the roof structure.
The system works by loose-laying Protan membrane over an airtight, load-bearing vapour control layer which is applied over a metal or concrete sealed deck.
Vacuum vents are fitted across the main roof area, and as air moves across the roof, any air between the membrane and airtight substrate below is sucked out, causing the single ply to adhere to the roof.
The process is fully warranty covered and results in a reduced number of fixings, shorter labour time, lower costs and faster installation times. The system can also help achieve or exceed the requirements of Building Regulations Approved Document L.
A key element of the PROVAC system, Protan SE membrane features a tensile strength of ≥ 1050 N/50 mm and tear resistance of ≥ 210N, meaning it will resist most wind forces. The membrane is UV stable and can still perform at temperatures ≤ -30°C.
Fraser Maitland, Protan UK managing director, commented: “It seems most winters we are subjected to high winds, causing £millions of damage as roofs are ripped off.
Even without such seasonal weather considerations, our geography means many areas of the country are subjected to high wind loadings. Our vacuum system gives an assured solution to ensuring the roof stays in place, however gusty the weather.
