Teeside University has installed and opened a Changing Places assisted, accessible toilet, to coincide with the launch of its new health and fitness centre.
Supplied and fitted by Clos-o-Mat, the Changing Places facility is located by the University’s new health and fitness centre, which sits next to its sports facilities.
When working on the design and specification of the new centre, the University’s health and wellbeing unit liaised with members of its disability team, who recommended the installation of a Changing Places toilet.
The facility is considered ‘desirable’ in public-access buildings, including educational institutions and establishments, under industry standard BS8300:2009. Its counterpart hygiene room is also required to ensure compliance with Department of Education guidelines.
Changing Places toilets have been designed to offer more space and specialist equipment. They provide disabled citizens, who may need the help of a carer, with an appropriate environment to fulfil their personal hygiene requirements in a public.
The facility boasts 12 square metres of space, in addition to a hoist and a height adjustable, adult-sized changing bench. To enhance accessibility further, Teeside University has included a Clos-o-Mat Palma Vita wash and dry toilet with a touch-sensitive switch.
Clos-o-Mat is responsible for the supply and installation of these Changing Places facilities. The company offers in-house design advice, commissioning, project management services and maintenance across a range of accessible toileting equipment.
Supporting information, such as white papers, room renders, CAD blocks and videos, can be downloaded via its website.
