The first ‘Housing our Ageing Population: Panel for Innovation (HAPPI)’ development for Bury Council and St Vincents Housing Association is being built by Kier Living.
The project will see 16 affordable apartments purpose-built for ‘over 55s’ to deliver energy efficient living which meets occupants’ needs as they change over time.
Meeting the needs of an ageing population extends to roof construction, which was addressed by Kier subcontractor Monoroof, who specified 700m2 of Protan SE 1.2mm single ply membrane on top of a Protan VB250 vapour control layer, in addition to190mm thick Kingspan insulation above a plywood deck, finished with Protan edging and trims.
Protan was also used to weatherproof the covered walkways that link the apartments together.
Available in 1.2mm, 1.6mm and 1.8mm, Protan SE single ply membrane is certified to ≤ -30° to cope with extreme weather conditions without detriment.
The membrane is hot-air welded at joints and mechanically fixed to the roof, and achieves durability in excess of 30 years, with air leakage controlled in line with latest Building Regulations.
The membrane is certified to deliver the energy efficiency requirements set out in Approved Document L, and, under the Green Guide, achieve a A+ rating.
