Marizale brick chosen for new residential development

  • 9 Jan 2017

Wienerberger’s Marziale brick has been specified for use in Ealing’s recent Heath Lodge residential scheme.

The housing development, which was designed by Autor Architecture, was originally considered too difficult for construction. To challenge the planning restriction, the team specified Wienerberger’s Marziale brick to work in conjunction with a prefabricated timber system.

The combination of traditional brick with modern methods of construction ensured that the team won its appeal against the planning restrictions. The project was permitted to go ahead as originally intended.

Wienerberger’s Marziale brick was supplied in three different styles to ensure compliance with the prefabricated timber system. Traditional brick and inward stepping brick slips were used with a 9mm exposure, to ensure smooth integration onto the structure.

The brick adds warm tones and a tectonic quality to the finish of the building.

Heath Lodge benefits from improved insulation values and renewable sources, through which it is able to supply approximately 20% of the energy used on site. This ensures that the finished building is complaint with Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.

Since its completion, the development has been recognised for four accolades, including the prestigious Housing Development of the Year award.
