The 16th century Loseley House near Guildford, Surrey has undergone an extensive roof replacement featuring Keymer handmade roof tiles.
Originally built for the reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth I, over 500 years ago, the exterior of Loseley House has changed very over the years.
Therefore, when the time came to replace the historic building’s roof – only the second roof in the history of the home – it was important that the product used reflected the property’s traditional architecture and heritage.
Unsatisfied with the house’s current slate tile, which replaced the original Horsham slab in 1856, Michael More-Molyneux, the owner of Loseley House, specified Keymer Handmade Traditional Plain Tiles to reflect the home’s 16th century origins.
First established in 1588, Keymer handmade tiles are manufactured using the original clays of the South Weald, utilising the same traditional equipment and processes which have been used over the past 4 centuries.
A total of 90,000 Keymer Handmade Traditional Plain Tiles were fitted over a nine-month period from September 2015 to May 2016.
In addition to installed Keymer Handmade Traditional Plain Tiles in Wealden Red contrasts, work included checking and repairing timber frames; fixing wool insulation and repairing masonry and pointing. The roof replacement is expected to last for at least the next 100 years.
