Buildingtalk’s Video of the Week looks at the specification of Alpha’s ARES Tec and ProTec boilers for residential developments managed by Vale of Aylesbury Housing.
Four ARES Tec boilers were specified to provide the residents of Wycliffe End with hot water and heating. Each block (named after famous people with links to Buckinghamshire, such as Anne Bolyen and Roald Dahl) benefits from a 250kw ARES Tec boiler, complete with a plate exchanger and safety kit.
ARES Tec boilers incorporate self-contained modules to provide a greater transfer of heat. The boilers contain a down-firing pre-mix burner, fan, ignition and safety controls to assist with the changing demands of a building and its occupants.
An integrated E8 Boiler Cascade Manager helps to spread the load evenly between heat modules and provides a rapid warm up time in response to multiple requests.
The independent living blocks at Wycliffe End benefits from radiators, central heating, hot water and thermostatic radiator valves, meaning the demands for each space can be controlled by its occupants. If demand falls low enough, the boiler will run on a minimum output of a single module, resulting in minimal energy consumption.
ARES Tec boilers are also suitable for assisted living developments, such as Vale of Aylesbury Housing’s North End Court development where two ProTec Plus commercial boilers were specified.
The ARES ProTec is a fan-assisted condensing system which provides heating only for sealed central heating systems, or open systems if required. Supplied with type B23 flue configuration (open chamber and forced draught), these allow for flexible siting, but can be adapted to type C (room sealed) with the use of a special flue adaptor kit if necessary.
The system is more compact than its ARES Tec counterpart, maximising space capacity. This was an ideal solution for North End Court, where an energy efficient solution was needed but space was restrictive.
Mike Humphrey of Vale of Aylesbury Housing commented that he was impressed with the systems fuel costs and savings after switching to ARES Tec and ProTec Plus boilers.
