  • 31 Jan 2017

Surface Design Show, the only event in the UK which focuses solely on interior and exterior surfaces, returns to London’s Business Design Centre from 7-9 February 2017. Architects, specifiers and designers will discover the latest surface developments on the market as well as having the opportunity to attend an extensive programme of events and network with like-minded professionals. Find out more in the latest issue of ABC&D magazine.

Over 160 exhibitors will be showcasing the newest and best materials in surface design for residential and commercial sectors. Returning brands include Altfield, Concreate and James Latham while Lovell Stone, Nordcell and Visive are some of the new exhibitors confirmed for 2017.

Visitors will find specific areas devoted to stone and lighting as well as Spotlight Live which is a dedicated area curated by trend and design writer Sally Angharad highlighting the most innovative materials for education and hospitality environments before they hit the market.

Light School, presented by Light Collective and supported by the Institution of Lighting Professionals, has been an integral part of Surface Design Show since 2014.

Highlighting the enduring relationship between light and surfaces, Light School consists of three parts: Product School, Light Talks sponsored by Luctra and the School Newspaper sponsored by Xicato.
Product School provides architects and designers with a comprehensive review of lighting innovation and the latest technology.

A star-studded line-up of speakers at Light Talks ensures everyone attending is sure to graduate in the lighting world and every attendee gets a free copy of the school newspaper to take away at the end of the school day.

Surface Design Show 2017 is full of new ideas and firm favourites refreshed to provide the specifying audience with a unique visiting experience.

Some of the events included in the packed programme will be the Preview Evening Live Debate hosted by former editor of Icon Magazine David Michon and the ever popular PechaKucha Evening – an informal and fun presentation of inspirational slides, which is hosted by Phil Coffey of Coffey Architects and includes speakers Chris Dyson of Chris Dyson Architects and Matthew Driscoll of Threefold Architects. Visitor registration for the show is now live at surfacedesignshow.com

Red Sky Thinking with BAL External Tiling Solutions – find out more at the Surface Design Show 2016 -Stand 616

Connecting the inside with the outdoors is the latest trend in design, with an increased need for balconies, roof terraces and ground floor terraces and patios to be incorporated in blueprints for commercial and domestic projects.

To have these areas available all year round requires coverings that are durable, hard-wearing and all weather – and tiles are the perfect answer, provided that assemblies are properly constructed.

BAL – market leaders in full tiling solutions – are returning to Stand 616 at the Surface Design Show at London’s Business Design Centre from 7-9 February to demonstrate its new technology and present informative RIBA-approved CPDs for fail-safe external tiling installations.

Introduced to the market this year, BAL’s new range of external tiling systems in conjunction with sister company Gutjahr, protects outdoor covering from the unpredictable British weather.

BAL’s patented system, including drainage matting, edge profiles, drain grates and guttering, is simple to install and provides rapid, immediate and high volume drainage. Water is drained down through the screed and rapidly expelled from the assembly, meaning no water staining, no freeze/thaw threat or efflorescence.
