Independent testing confirms Filcoten market-leading installed strength

  • 23 Feb 2017

Independent testing of the Filcoten grated channel drainage system from Gatic Civil Drainage has confirmed its market-leading levels of strength and stability.

Manufactured from high performance concrete, the system offers a bond to concrete surround that is up to five times stronger than competitors, improving the installed channel’s resilience to traffic loading, ground movement and thermal cycling.

Traditional grated channel systems are typically used in shallow, invert environments where the surface area exposed to the bedding concrete is relatively low. The installed performance is therefore largely influenced by the level adhesion between the channel wall and surrounding concrete.

Whilst physically profiling the channel with cut-outs and faceting can improve installed performance, the strength of the chemical bond is primarily responsible for determining durability and longevity.

The tests also showed that Filcoten can be installed in both wet and dry conditions without any impact on the stability of the finished run.

High Performance Concrete

Filcoten is manufactured from a high performance concrete that is seventy percent lighter than conventional concrete and is stronger and more eco-friendly than resin and fibre reinforced concretes.

Filcoten is made up of clean mineral and fibre which, in addition to the close control of the curing process, helps achieve a compressive strength of 80-90 N/mm2 without having to revert to the use of chemical stabilisers, additives or releasing agents.

The product is 100 percent recyclable, with no plastic resins, hardening agents, solvents or releasing agents used, and is made using entirely renewable energy.

All Filcoten channels are comprehensively tested and fully comply with all relevant British Standards. They are CE marked and meet the requirements of Energy Management BS EN ISO 50001:2011.
