Young painter and decorated, James Riley, has been named Apprentice of the Year by national maintenance, refurbishment and new build contractor, Novus Property Solutions.
The annual competition saw the company pick from its current pool of 41 apprentices nationwide, and chose James, 21, third-year apprentice based at Novus’ Wrexham office. James will now act as an ambassador for the company for the rest of the year.
In 2013, James joined Novus as an apprentice and he currently combines his work with his college studies at Wirrall Metropolitan College. He has taken advantage of the company’s training programmes during his four years, and will complete his apprenticeship in September 2017.
In addition to working with permanent staff on refurbishment and construction projects, James has volunteered his time for several community projects.
James was honoured and explained that the opportunities open to apprentices at Novus are endless, and once his apprenticeship has been completed, he can start on his permanent career with the company.
Luke Mulliner, also a third-year painting and decorating apprentice in Novus’ Wrexham office and Reece Jones, a third-year multi-trade apprentice, were the runners up in the apprentice of the year shortlist.
Training manager at Novus, Jackie Budden said this year’s award was hotly contested by three very good candidates, and James’ ability as a painter and decorator and his dedication to the firm’s values set him apart.
