ROCKWOOL’s latest CPD, ’Acoustic Standards in Schools’, has been designed to offer guidance on the latest building regulations and best practice for specifying acoustics in school buildings.
With more buildings being developed as single, multi-use units, and the urban environment getting noisier, it is becoming increasingly important to specify good acoustics for schools.
Research has shown that excessive noise can have a detrimental impact on academic performance. Poor acoustics can compromise classroom control, and disadvantage children with special needs – particularly those with hearing difficulties.
ROCKWOOL’s latest CPD aims to make architects aware of the acoustic issues that school buildings face. It has been designed to explain how stone wall insulation can provide a variety of long-lasting solutions to combat unwanted sound ingress.
The company’s stone wool insulation products meet the acoustic requirements of Building Bulletin 93 (BB93), which was introduced under the Building Regulations by the Department of Education and Skills in 2003.
Its portfolio has been tested to meet the stringent demands of today’s legislation; they have been designed to reduce reverberation, ambient and impact noise.
ROCKWOOL offers an array of bespoke acoustic solutions: its HARDROCK Multi-Fix has been designed to provide flat roof insulation, whilst its ROCKWOOL FLEXI and ROCKFLOOR offer internal floor solutions to counter impact noise. External wall insulation can be achieved using the REDArt system.
The company’s fire protection range can also reduce flanking transmission: sound which is indirectly transmitted via paths such as external wall cavities and voids above partitions. This is one of the most pressing noise concerns within school buildings.
The launch of ‘Acoustic Standards in Schools’ coincides with the release of ROCKWOOL’s online acoustic calculator, which has been developed to provide a simple way of working out the acoustic performance of insulation within floors, roofs and walls.
ROCKWOOL has released an online enquiry form, to be filled out by those who wish to participate in the CPD.
