What the rooflight trade association does for specifiers

  • 14 Mar 2017

Huge change and innovation across the construction industry is being driven by climate change, globalisation and countless other local factors, particularly in the UK’s rooflighting sector, where past and forthcoming revisions to Part L of the Building Regulations have an important bearing on rooflight specification.

The National Association of Rooflight Manufacturers, offers an authoritative independent source for advice and support on compliance with Part L, and other standards covering Fire, Health & Safety and Product Quality.

Representing a complete cross-section of currently available rooflight technologies, NARM is a highly active and influential industry association.

As a member of the Construction Products Association, NARM represents the rooflight industry in consultation with the Government and its subcontractors, CIBSE, AECOM and the BRE, on issues relating to Part L. NARM is vital in providing information to ensure that legislation is based on best practice.

NARM is represented on relevant BSI committees for all roof light product standards and through this position the association also represents the UK industry with reference to European standards.

Independent research by authoritative sources such as De Montfort University and Oxford Brookes University, into rooflight-related issues are commissioned and published by NARM. The research is available on NARM’S website, free for specifiers. In addition, the website contains a mine of detailed information for specifiers, plus profiles on all member companies.

As a founding member of the Advisory Committee for Roofsafety, NARM works with ACT and the HSE in interpreting and clarifying Health & Safety regulations.

A RIBA approve online CPD Seminar has also been published by NARM, ‘An introduction to daylighting with rooflights’.

For further information, please contact NARM using the contact details on our website, where you will be directed to the appropriate person.
