Recofloor encourages the recycling of waste vinyl flooring

  • 15 Mar 2017

Flooring companies can save up to 70% on disposal costs when they recycle their waste vinyl flooring through Recofloor, in comparison to sending offcuts or uplifted material to landfill.

In 2009, Polyflor and Altro founded their national waste vinyl flooring recycling scheme and now more than 700 collectors across the UK and Ireland are benefiting from this sustainable alternative disposal route. Waste vinyl flooring is also accepted at more than 60 drop-off sites.

Landfill tax will rise to £86.10 per tonne, plus £19 per tonne as the median Gate Fee, from April 2017, according to WRAP’s latest Material’s Pricing Report. Recofloor, on the other hand, charge just £30 to collect either four bags or two bins from a member’s premises.

Carla Eslava, Recofloor Project Co-ordinator comments that the increasing cost of waste disposal makes recycling the smart choice for both the economy and environment. Recofloor’s scheme, however, helps firms of all sizes to return waste material for recycling.

Recofloor’s website offers a Cost Calculator, showing how much contractors and fitters can save by using Recofloor compared to the cost of landfilling or skipping their waste vinyl.

Recofloor will recycle smooth and safety vinyl offcuts and roll ends, uplifted smooth vinyl and luxury vinyl tiles back into new products, including flooring. In addition, Recofloor will collect waste vinyl from a contractor’s premises or job site.

Carla expresses the importance of keeping waste materials clean and dry prior to collection, as well as minimising contamination such as blades or knives, wood and plastic for safety reasons and to reduce hazards.
