REHAU Llandysul School Case Study

Llandysul School, a new energy efficient £30m super school in Wales, features more than 11,000m² of REHAU pipework – 9,200m² fitted using REHAU’s Tacker sheet system and 2,000m² fitted using its diffusion plate system over a timber suspended floor.

The quality of REHAU’s PE-Xa pipework impressed main contractors Willmott Dixon Construction along with the speed of installation carried out by specialist sub-contractors Amroc Heating Services.

The underfloor heating is integrated into a full BMS intelligent control system. A built in MODBus® communication network enables easy connection into most Building Management Systems.

The Tacker sheet system, which provides a fast and efficient way of fixing the underfloor heating pipework directly onto insulated sheets, has been used for all of the main parts of the building, while REHAU’s diffusion plates have been used for the sprung floor in the sports hall and dance studio.

The sophisticated control system offers a wireless option and a cooling function to optimise individual comfort.

About Llandysul School

Llandysul is a new super school that merges five schools – Ysgol Dyffryn Teifi, Aberbanc, Coedybryn, Llandysul, and Pontsian.

The build involved the construction of a new two-storey 11,200m2 facility to accommodate 1,000 primary and secondary school pupils.

The school facilities include a large hall, sports hall, kitchen and catering facilities, and 47 classrooms including science laboratories and IT facilities.

The design of the school incorporated many sustainable features, including photovoltaic panels, and will make use of natural light and ventilation, to help create an energy self-sufficient school.

External landscaping of the surrounding area includes four sports pitches, a full sized 2G synthetic sports pitch and on-site parking.
