Plumis Automist is the fire safety solution

  • 29 Mar 2017

Plumis Automist systems have been provided by Newflame Fire Equipment Co. Ltd as a fire safety solution for a block of seven flats.

The block of flats is situated above Baldock library in Hertfordsire town, and has recently been converted from office space. With the new open plan design in the flats, there was no protected means of escape available in the case of an emergency.

Open plan designs are allowed by the LACoRS guide and Approved Document B, as long as some additional features are provided.

The owner of the building did not want to install sprinklers and when looking for an alternative discovered the Plumis website and sent the plans of the conversion to Newflame, the accredited Automist installer for the area.

Offering to protect the building at a reasonable price, with limited disruption and in a shorter timeframe than fitting sprinklers, allowed the conversion to progress speedily.

Automist uses just 5.5 litres of water per minute per head in a fine water mist – much less than sprinklers. Installation was brief and did not affect the fabric of the property with wires, as Automist uses a wireless system. In addition, it not only alerts occupants to an incipient fire but also suppresses it.

Richard Scotcher of Newflame explained that he has no hesitation in recommending Automist as a much superior alternative to traditional fire safety measures.
