Deisgners Yeoman McAllister Architects have specified a green roof for the Manor Grange care home, in the Ediburgh suburb of Pinkhill.
Budgetary constraints have led to contractor Hart Builders and roofing subcontractor Strathisla Roofing to devise an innovative solution for the £8million, 80-bedroomed, two storey building using Protan single ply membrane in copper green.
Over 1700m2 of Protan SE1.6mm standard overlap has been mechanically fixed to the metal deck to create the fifth facade.
Strathisla’s Kevin Easson explained that local planners insisted on the roof being green, to blend in with the the surrounding landscape and Protan was able to provide a verdigris green membrane.
Protan SE membrane has been designed to cope with extreme weather conditions and achieves durability for up to 30 years. Additionally, air leakage is controlled in line with the latest Building Regulations.
