Marley Eternit’s JB Western Red Cedar Shingles have been specified for the roofs of 28 new medieval-themed lodges at Warwick Castle.
Visitors have the chance to experience the medieval age with the additions of the lodges to the tourist attraction. Willerby Bespoke designed the lodges, including the Knight’s Lodge; a two-storey mezzanine design, meaning that installation and stitching the roofs together was more complex and had to be completed on site.
JB Shingles require low maintenance, blend into the heritage surroundings, and give a robust finish and reassurance from the accreditation to the Cert-Grade quality assurance label, as certified by the Cedar Shingle and Shake Bureau. As a result, it was specified by Willerby Bespoke.
Cedar shingles has a low carbon footprint and stores more carbon than it emits during its harvest, manufacture and transportation combined. Light to transport and quick to install as well as offering a high degree of thermal insulation.
Phil Parks, commercial manager at Willerby Innovations, the parent company of Willerby Bespoke, explained that the lodges needed to be designed to blend into the ancient forest and a long-life durable solution that was straightforward to fix, was required. Consequently, the lodges were completed in plenty of time for the official opening.
