Cembrit launches new Unipan tile backer board

Cladding and building board specialist Cembrit has launched Unipan, a versatile tile backing board suitable for internal wet applications. 

The lightweight and robust backing board provides a solid base for tiling through its excellent adhesion properties. Manufactured from a cement and aggregate mix, which also contains polystyrene beading to reduce the weight of the board, Unipan has been designed for ease of use and simple installation.

Designed with flat, reinforced tapered edges for a good join – which is of utmost importance when used in wet applications such as bathrooms – the taper means the board can be screwed close to the chamfered edges, reducing board flexing without spalling.

Surfaces of the board are strengthened with glass fibre mesh for additional durability. The boards can be cut with hand tools by scribing and breaking, so no mechanical tools are necessary. 

Unipan testing

The boards are mechanically fixed to stud or block work and are available specially sized for bathrooms and showers. The board does not require priming prior to the application of tile adhesive unless specified by the adhesive manufacturer otherwise making for a user-friendly application.

Unipan has been tested to ASTM G21 indicating it is resistant to moisture and mould growth, scoring the highest level of performance for mould resistance under the ASTM D 3273 test.

Unipan has been tested to the dedicated fire resistance standard EN 13501-1 and is classified to A1, S1-d0. The board has also been tested in accordance with BS 476 parts 6 & 7 class 0, thereby ensuring high fire resistance.
